Sacrifice: “Thinking that I must give up to receive.”
It is essentially the belief that we must “give to get”. It carries the belief that we must give up something we want in order to earn or receive something else. It expresses the view of the world that everything has a cost. In “Glossary Index for A Course in Miracles, 1982” Ken Wapnick, Ph.D. writes: “for example, it is belief that in order to receive God’s love we must pay a price, usually in the form of suffering to expiate our guilt. The opposite of the principle of justice where no one loses and everyone gains.”
Salvation: We are listing salvation because we searched for a less “church laden” word replacement. Alas, we were unable to find a term that would accommodate the many different contexts in which it appears in ACIM. Some of the synonyms in ACIM include: “The moment we choose to see through the Holy Spirits eyes”, “willingness to see through the Holy Spirit’s perception”, “escape from guilt” and “the undoing of separation”. Thus, we have omitted any substituted term.
We encourage you to go to the Foundation for Inner Peace website. In the text search box type “salvation” and read for yourself the many varied contexts for this word.
