Chapter 3, Section 4, Paragraph 7

When I tell people that I don’t believe that Jesus died for my sins, they often ask, well why do you believe in him? In essence they are saying, “What does Jesus do for you if he did not take the “wrap” for your “mistakes”. This section does a wonderful job of explaining, “Why Jesus matters” to me and to anyone. The way I articulate this today is, Jesus can’t choose for me, that is my job. What Jesus can do is help me see and heal my misperceptions or wrong-minded perceptions. The way he invites me to do this with his help, is by asking me to stand beside anyone and everyone in love and equality. When I see everyone in me and myself in them and extend love to them, I can tell my perceptions are clear. When I recoil, saying “no way” or “that is impossible”, I know I have more work to do. The fact that I feel only incredible love from Jesus helps me do the work. The fact that I feel no judgement from him when I say, “are you kidding, them?” makes it possible for me to try again to stand beside that person in love and equality. Jesus is the safety net beneath me, the wind beneath my wings, as I try to heal my long-held judgements and perceptions of myself, of others and of God.

I do not believe that Jesus is the “only way” to heal the separation, as the Bible and ACIM seem to suggest. For me, I do know he is the best way and with his constant help available to me, I know I cannot fail.

It is not a matter that I have to use his help, it is “why would I even try this difficult work without his help?”  I believe I have the greatest chance to “choose right sooner” when I use his help. Why would I try to fly on the tiny wings of a sparrow when the wings of an eagle are given to me? It is not because his body died for my sins, it is that his eternal spirit, One with God, lives and longs for me to join him in peace.”
